Arts Faculty Overview
The Arts Faculty Introduction
At Creative Secondary School, the Arts faculty is dedicated to inspiring creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth in every student.
Through Music, Drama, and Visual Arts, we nurture artistic expression, cultural understanding, and a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Our programmes—spanning IB MYP, HKDSE, and IBDP—challenge students to explore diverse perspectives, develop technical and conceptual skills, and find their unique voice as artists and thinkers.
We believe that the arts are essential for building confidence, empathy, and resilience. Our faculty provides a supportive, inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to take creative risks, reflect deeply, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider world.
IB MYP Junior Curriculum (Forms 1-3)
The Arts Faculty Junior Curriculum cultivates creative expression, critical thinking, and cultural understanding through a balanced approach to visual and performing arts. Our programme empowers students to investigate artistic forms, develop technical skills, and create meaningful artistic works that reflect their personal and cultural identities.
All junior form units are designed to spark curiosity, sustain engagement, and promote artistic inquiry through conceptual understanding in global contexts. Our teaching and learning experiences emphasize collaboration, celebrate diverse perspectives and artistic expressions, and value both process and product.
Assessment in the Arts Faculty is authentic, varied, and developmentally appropriate, supporting all learners in their artistic journey. We value multiple forms of artistic expression and assessment, including:
-
Practical demonstrations and performances
-
Visual and digital creation
-
Oral presentations and discussions
-
Creative process documentation
-
Reflective writing and analysis
Our inclusive approach ensures that all students can access, engage with, and demonstrate their learning in ways that honor their strengths and learning styles. Through transparent planning, collaborative teaching, and ongoing reflection, we continually refine our practice to enhance student learning and artistic development.
The Arts Faculty is committed to nurturing imaginative, empathetic, and analytical young artists who understand the power of the arts to communicate, challenge, and transform both personal identity and cultural perspectives.
HKDSE/IBDP Senior Form Curriculum Philosophy (Forms 4–6)
Our senior Arts curriculum—encompassing both the HKDSE and IBDP programmes—challenges and inspires students to achieve artistic excellence, cultivate critical and creative thinking, and develop the confidence to express themselves through a variety of artistic forms. Grounded in the rigorous standards of both qualifications, our curriculum is designed to nurture reflective, independent learners and thoughtful artists who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to their communities and to the wider world.
In the senior forms, students deepen their personal expression and mastery of advanced artistic skills while engaging with analytical and evaluative practices integral to both the HKDSE and IBDP. We foster an environment where students are encouraged to explore diverse perspectives, connect their work to global and cultural contexts, and reflect on their own artistic journeys.
By promoting self-direction, inquiry, and collaboration, our holistic approach prepares students for success in their final years of schooling and beyond—empowering them for academic achievement, creative fulfillment, and lifelong engagement with the arts.

Our Visual Arts programme is a dynamic and exploratory journey that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression. Rooted in the creative process, students investigate a wide range of visual art forms and techniques, from drawing and painting to photography and sculpture. They engage with the work of both historical and contemporary artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, using these insights to inform their own artistic choices. Through this process, students become inquirers and problem-solvers, developing a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Our IB MYP Visual Arts curriculum encourages students to create and present original artworks while building technical skills and conceptual understanding. They are guided through a process of exploration and self-discovery, making meaningful connections between their research and creative practice. Students reflect on their work and the work of others, considering the cultural and contextual significance of visual art. This holistic approach empowers them to express ideas with purpose and confidence, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts and their role in shaping global perspectives.
