Flag Raising Ceremony Students’ Sharing 2025-9-3

Sammi and Isabella, students from Form 4 Bauhinia and Form 5 Jacaranda respectively, did a sharing about commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. In their sharing, they talk about the commemorative events in Beijing, including a massive military parade. They also encouraged students to learn from and cultivate a sense of responsibility to pass down history.

Sammi: Good morning teachers and my fellow schoolmates, I am Sammi from F4Ba.

Isabella: And I am Isabella from F5Ja. Today, it’s a special day for us, as it marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Isabella: Sammi, do you know anything about the War of Resistance?

Sammi: 我知道今天是中國抗日戰爭勝利80週年的重要日子。中國人民抗日戰爭是中國人民反抗日本帝國主義的正義戰爭，時間是從1931年9月18日「918事件」開始至1945年9月2日日本正式投降書結束，時長14年。

Isabella: Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a war waged by the Chinese people against Japanese imperialism, lasting 14 years from the September 18th Incident on September 18, 1931, to Japan's formal surrender on September 2, 1945.

Sammi: 這是一件非常重要的歷史事件！

Isabella: Yes it is, also, there will be a series of commemorative events in China today.

Sammi: 在9月3日╴北京的紀念活動有天安門廣場盛大集會與閱兵式,中午招待會等等。閱兵活動包括習近平主席檢閱部隊、軍事方隊展示現代化裝備，以及超過5萬名嘉賓參與，當中的嘉賓包括俄羅斯總統普京，北韓領導人金正恩等等。而我們的行政長官李家超先生也獲邀參與這次盛事。

Isabella: In Beijing, one of the highlights is a grand military parade in Tiananmen Square commemorating the great victory and promoting the enduring spirit of the War of Resistance. At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, 26 foreign heads of state and government will attend the Commemoration, including President of Russia Vladimir Putin, General Secretary of the Workers Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un.

In acknowledgment of the invitation from the Central People's Government, our Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, will lead a delegation of members from various sectors of the community to Beijing to attend these events.

Sammi: So Isabella, that is the introduction of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and what events will be held today. As students, what can we do to commemorate this important historical event?

Isabella: As students it's important for us to commemorate this important historical event, and there are many ways to do so. Firstly, it’s important to fully understand and learn more about it so we encourage students to go visit the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence in Shau Kei Wan. There is a thematic gallery - Together for Peacebuilding: Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance in Guangdong and Hong Kong, displaying a variety of cultural relics. Students could also do their own personal research online, watch documentaries and find veterans stories.

Sammi: 作為學生，紀念這一重要的歷史事件至關重要，而且有很多方法可以實現的。首先，充分了解和學習相關的知識尤其重要，因此我們鼓勵同學參觀筲箕灣的香港抗戰及海防博物館。博物館現正舉行名為「風雨同舟 共建和平 - 粵港人民抗戰勝利八十周年展」的專題展覽。展覽中展示了不少文物。同學也可以自行上網搜尋資料，觀看紀錄片，了解老兵的故事。

Isabella: The 80th anniversary of the War of Resistance victory celebrates China’s unity and peace after a brutal conflict. Hong Kong’s participation through delegations, events, and education reflects its historical role and commitment to these values, fostering social cohesion and lasting peace. As what Ms Christine Choi, our current Secretary for Education in Hong Kong, shared in her letter to all Primary and Secondary Schools, we should always remember the indomitable spirit of the martyrs in defending the country, learn from history, cherish the “hard-earned peace” and cultivate a sense of responsibility to pass down history.

Sammi: 抗日戰爭勝利80周年紀念活動表彰團結與和平精神。香港通過代表團、活動及教育參與，連結歷史與現代，促進社會凝聚力與和平。正如我們的教育局局長蔡若蓮女士在致中小學的開學信提到，我們要以史為鑑，銘記先烈不掘不撓、保家衞國的精神，珍惜來之不易的和平，培養傳承歷史的責任感。
