MY1 Chinese Shadow Puppetry

From May to June 2025, MY1 students enthusiastically took part in an engaging Chinese Shadow Puppetry workshop, delivered by an external specialist company, Maestro Education. The programme culminated in a final performance for a teacher audience that was inspired by a scene from the classic tale Journey to the West.

Throughout the workshop, students immersed themselves in the traditional Chinese art form by designing and crafting their own puppets, learning the techniques of puppet manipulation, recording voiceovers for their performance and rehearsing together for their final show. This hands-on journey not only introduces students to the cultural heritage behind shadow puppetry but also deepens their appreciation for the story’s central theme of benevolence.

As a celebration of their hard work and creativity, each student received a certificate of completion and a DIY puppet to take home — a meaningful keepsake of their unique learning experience.
