CSS B Grade Rugby 7 team becomes first runner up in HK Schools Rugby 7's knock out finals

Congratulations to the CSS B Grade team for reaching the Final of the Hong Kong Schools Rugby 7’s tournament on 23 February 2019. This is an excellent achievement from a team with several key players ill with flu.

In the quarter finals, our boys beat DBS narrowly 7-0.

In the semi-final,CSS boys were poles apart on efficiency and performance against St. Joseph’s College (SJC) winning by a huge margin of 33 – 0.

The boys entered the final against athletic powerhouse - Lasalle College (LSC). Several miss tackles took place immediately and Lasalle sliced through our soft defense with speed and velocity. The CSS boys were 3 tries behind after the 1st half. A well-received passionate half time talk by the key players managed to put the team on tilt and unleashed their inner manic aggression for the 2nd half. CSS boys were able to tear through LSC defense and scored two tries in the dying minutes. The Maroon and Grey heroic comeback was too little too late and the loss ended CSS’s title defense in dramatic fashion.

Considering the small pool of players we have to choose our team from compared to these three boys' schools, each with renowned sporting track records and hundreds of boys to pick their teams from, we believe that our boys have done extremely well, comfortably "punching above our weight" in this heavyweight division! Well done CSS! Thanks our PE team led by Mr. Paul Stanley, in particular, Mr. Daniel Chan who has directly coached our team so well this year.
