Anson and Vivian, students from Form 5 Delonix and Form 5 Juniper respectively, did a sharing about their Open Day Preparation. They both regarded it as an amazing and rewarding experience, seeing everyone putting their greatest efforts into the preparations. At the same time, they learnt to have better management skills and became better leaders.

Written by Anson TSE (Form 5) and Vivian LIU (Form 5)

Anson: Good morning, Principal, Assistant Principals, teachers, and our fellow students. I’m Anson from F5 Delonix, House Captain of Delonix.

Vivian: I am Vivian from F5 Juniper, House Captain of Juniper.

Anson: This Saturday is our school’s Open Day. As House Captains, we have been working hard in preparing for the Open Day charity booths in the past weeks. Our house committees have dedicated their tutor times, recesses, and lunch times to preparing the booths.

Vivian: That's right! We’ve been dedicatedly working, as Open Day is an important annual event that celebrates our community, and allows students to bond and work together. We present our student talents to visitors by running the charity booths and performing on stage. Today, we’d like to share with you our experience as house captains, planning and preparing for the upcoming Open Day.

Anson: Since it’s my first time being in the house committee and being responsible for organising the charity booths, this week has been really rewarding. For me, I loved being able to showcase my leadership skills in different forms and step into the role of a “teacher”. I found that our Form 1s and Form 2s were really diligent during preparation! It’s been an amazing experience!

Vivian: I agree, the preparations have been more fun than I expected, and it wouldn't be as smooth sailing without the cooperation of our creative students! I still remember my first Open Day when I joined the school as Form 1, how lively and rich the experience was, with the school filled to the brim with passion! I couldn’t even fathom how much effort the house committees and teachers at the time had to put in to organise the event involving so many students across Form 1 to Form 4.

Anson: Yep, I feel the same. I definitely want to instill that amazement you had into all of our guests this Saturday. I have a good feeling that each of our committee’s unique plans and teamwork will create a memorable Open Day, with diverse booths and activities in every house. Although, to be honest, the past weeks of preparation have probably been my most stressful weeks by far, they definitely taught me the importance of time management. Since we planned all the charity booths back in October, the preparation has been as productive as it gets.

Vivian: That pretty much sums it up for me, too! While the busy schedule does add pressure and stress, it pushes me to be more productive while enhancing my management skills as my committees and I lead the students and push through the obstacles we face. In addition to that, it also allows me to get to know our students a bit more and bond through the preparations! In my opinion, students are the stars of the show. We wouldn’t be able to execute all of this without you guys.

Anson: Absolutely! As our open day preparations are almost over, let’s look ahead to the excitement of this Saturday, and try our best to make this the most successful Open Day ever! I’d like to thank all of the house committees for allowing our plans to come to life, Form 1 to Form 4 students for your passionate participation, and lastly, Form 5 and Form 6, and of course, thanks to all of the lovely staff, for all of your support!

All: Thank you!!
