Flag Raising Ceremony Students’ Sharing 2025-9-18

Michael and Kevin, students from Form 4 Bombax and Form 4 Juniper, respectively, shared their enriching experience of the “MuseTeens: Youth Leadership Scheme 2025” programme. It was a totally eye-opening experience for them, where they learned about museum operations, traditional crafts, and curating exhibitions. They also completed an internship as tour guides to conduct guided tours for visitors in one of the chosen exhibition halls in a museum.

Kevin: Good morning, Principal, Assistant Principals, teachers, and our fellow students. I’m Kevin Lu from Form 4 Juniper.

Michael: I’m Michael Tao from Form 4 Bombax. Kevin, 聽說你這個暑假做了一些很有意義的事。

Kevin: Yes indeed! Before the summer holiday, I applied to a programme, namely “MuseTeens: Youth Leadership Scheme 2025”. This programme aims at enhancing our understanding of art, culture, and history and fostering our interest in cultural and artistic fields. Fortunately, I was selected as one of the 40 local school students to join this event.

Michael: 我也很榮幸獲選參加是次活動，讓我介紹一下活動內容吧。「文化新人類 - 青年領袖奬勵計劃」這個項目是香港文化博物館舉辦的。本次項目的主題是古藝新陶，所以我們學到了不少與陶瓷相關的知識。通過面試後，我們參加了為期十天的活動。我們認識了不少的文物，也學到了一些簡單的文物管理方法以及傳統技藝。Kevin，你能為大家簡單介紹一下活動的具體內容嗎？

Kevin: Of course, in these 2 weeks of training, we visited most of the facilities in the museum and learned how the museum operates, including visiting the collection room and the collection restoration studio. The museum also prepared some lectures and activities to teach us how to organise an exhibition, from planning to execution.

Michael: 沒錯，博物館為我們準備了豐富的活動。其中，我印象最深刻的活動是手繪廣彩。廣彩是廣州彩繪瓷器的簡稱，屬釉上彩。廣彩有近三百年歷史，因為其色彩鮮豔、構圖嚴謹而得到國內外眾多人士的肯定。我從完全沒有聽說過這門藝術，到初步掌握廣彩作品的組成部分與繪製方法只用了數天。我在體驗過後，深知廣彩創作的不易，每個細節都需要細心雕琢。一件精美的藝術品背後是師傅日復一日的付出。

Kevin: Even though my Guangcai painting was kind of imperfect, it was still an unforgettable experience, as the effort I put into it was countless. After the completion of the programme, we had a chance to join an internship programme as tour guides and conduct guided tours for visitors in one of the chosen exhibition halls in the museum. This precious experience helps us enhance our communication skills through observing the audience's facial expressions and transforming complex information into engaging narratives to cater to diverse listeners. It did take us some time to prepare, but it is worth seeing the audience’s satisfaction on their faces.

Kevin: Michael, which exhibition hall do you enjoy most during the programme?

Michael: 我最喜歡的展廳是「瞧潮香港60+」。我在這個展廳中了解到香港近幾十年潮流文化的變化。隨着社會科技的發展，人們的娛樂方式及藝術特色發生了日新月異的變化。這個展覽透過黃家駒的木結他，梅艷芳的戲服等近千件展品，向我們闡述了二次大戰後至二千年代初香港的流行音樂、電影、電視和電台廣播節目及漫畫和玩具等的發展。這令我對香港社會的發展有了更深入的認識。參觀後，我最大的收穫是對「文化」這一詞的定義有了新的見解。從前，我一直認為文化就是一個國家的歷史文物背後象徵的意義。然而，這個展覽展出的都是當代的一些物件，卻也可以代表香港的文化。我現在認為，文化的價值不是用時間來衡量的，而是無處不在，甚麼也可以成為「文化」。我還發現文化的傳播與科技發展息息相關。

Kevin: My favourite part is the Hong Kong comedy comics exhibition hall. I can find my favourite childhood comic《老夫子》, and I even found a clip that I watched before. The exhibition presents different perspectives of the comic artists, allowing the audience to know how these artists were inspired. There are also some iconic comic characters, such as Old Master Q, My Boy, and Sau Sing Chai, who have been the entertainment of generations of readers. From the exhibition, I learned that comics have played a crucial role in Hong Kong’s culture.

Michael: 最後，我非常高興可以參加這次活動。我在這個寶貴的經歷中對中國傳統文化和香港潮流文化有了更深刻的認識。專家和講者們的講座以及實習的機會開拓了我的視野，令我更感受到文化的魅力。

Kevin: Same, no doubt it is an eye-opening experience for me. Being a Hong Kong resident for over 15 years, I am surprised that there are still so many cultures and histories that are yet to be discovered by me.
