Hiu Lam and Hailey, students from Form 5 Bombax and Form 5 Cassia, respectively, shared about their memorable experiences during Creative Week. They both went to Brisbane, Australia, for an 8-day trip to learn about aviation. They both think that each year’s Creative Week has been an incredible journey in their school life, developing intercultural understanding and fostering a sense of responsibility and personal growth.

Hiu Lam: Good morning, Principal, Assistant Principals, teachers, and our fellow students. I’m Hiu Lam from F5 Bombax.
Hailey: I am Hailey from F.5 Cassia
Hiu Lam: Two weeks ago was our Creative Week. It was a captivating experience as always, where students have the opportunity to explore around the world. There are places such as Asian countries like mainland China and Bali, Western countries like Australia and Spain, and local programmes!
Hailey: Creative week has always been a key highlight in CSS, offering us a unique opportunity to broaden our horizons. This year, Hiu Lam and I went to Brisbane as our final Creative Week destination.
Hiu Lam: During the week, there were three days of aviation in the trip. We visited an aviation college and had the valuable chance to step onto the campus of the School of Aviation at Griffith University. We learnt about the physics behind operating a helicopter, how pilots interpret data from the control tower, and how to control an aircraft using a simulator. We had the chance to get on both a plane and a helicopter to observe the control panel. Gaining this experience made me understand the importance of maintaining composure and attention to detail, because pilots have to manage a massive amount of data while executing precise instructions, and a single slip may cause lasting sorrow. It was definitely a great learning experience outside of the classroom that allowed us to see the knowledge being applied in real-world situations.
Hailey: Other than that, we had the chance to explore Brisbane by going to local museums, gardens, beaches, zoos, and theme parks. The experience of going to local gardens and parks was truly eye-opening. In Brisbane, the pace of life is much slower, It therefore offers a huge comparison to the crowded, high-pressure life in Hong Kong! Furthermore, seeing wild animals wandering past and all the amazing local plants and flowers left a lasting impression on me! Going to the zoo is also another unforgettable experience. I will never forget the excitement of seeing a bunch of kangaroos and koalas in person!
Experiencing these things for the first time alongside my friends made the moment even more special. We went to the beach on the Gold Coast and the Warner Bros movie on the last day of our trip. Enjoying the morning sun on one of Australia's famous beaches is a memory that remains vivid in my mind. Trying out different rollercoaster rides and games in the theme park also gave us endless laughs and excitement! We have also learnt how engineers use physics to manipulate our senses. This knowledge can be connected to the technology used in an airplane!
Hiu Lam: That is so true! It was fascinating to see how the physics we usually just read from textbooks was actually giving us that adrenaline rush on the rides, I still miss it! Beyond all the thrills, this trip taught us the value of stepping out of our comfort zone. Whether we were experiencing Australian culture or trying exciting activities, it pushed us to be more adventurous and independent. You never know what you might enjoy until you try it. Trips over these years have truly broadened my horizons. I used to think that Hong Kong was everything, but now I know there are many more diverse lifestyles and values that exist around the globe. And it has taught me to embrace the world with a much more open mindset.
Hailey: Looking back, these three years - from New Zealand to Iceland to Brisbane - have been more than just school trips. They gave me countless lifetime memories and lots of ‘first times’. They also helped me in developing intercultural understanding by engaging with diverse cultures and modern city life, fostering a sense of responsibility and personal growth. I believe all of them are invaluable skills that are essential to my future.
Hiu Lam: For me, each year’s Creative Week has been an incredible journey. I have never thought of setting foot on lands that are miles away from my hometown at such a young age. These experiences taught us to be more curious and globally-minded, and shaped us into better learners who are ready to face future challenges. Not only did I learn through trips, but I gained such beautiful and lifelong memories with my friends, and this is what Creative Week is all about.
Hailey: At last, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the trip leaders and teachers for arranging such an unforgettable trip for us all!
Hiu Lam: We would also like to thank the school for offering such an opportunity for students to explore the world through a purposeful extension of the curriculum while remaining rooted in strong educational values. That's the end of our sharing, thank you!
