Neil: And I'm Neil Zhang from Form 3 Bombax.

Neil: Today marks the 81st anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japan Aggression (War of Resistance). This war began in 1931 and ended in 1945, lasting 14 years. It was the longest and largest war against foreign aggression in modern Chinese history, and also the first time China achieved a complete victory.

Neil: On September 2, 1945, Japan surrendered on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay to China, the US, the UK, and other Allies. The next day, on September 3, Japanese representatives signed the Instrument of Surrender, followed by representatives from nine nations including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. It became Victory Day. In 2014, China's National People's Congress made it the official Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance, and Hong Kong has since held annual commemorations.

Neil:  We can read books about the war and watch related documentaries. We can also visit museums, such as the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance Against Japan in Shau Kei Wan. The Patriotic Education Centre holds some special exhibitions. For example, there is a pastel painting workshop at the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence. From now to the end of the month, there are also exhibitions on the War of Resistance and the Occupation of Hong Kong in Tsang Yi Public Library, South Kwai Chung Public Library and North Kwai Chung Public Library.

Neil: President Xi Jinping once said: "War is a mirror. Looking at it helps us better appreciate the value of peace." We remember this victory to value peace, not to gain hate or to praise war. We should cherish the peace we have now and create a great future together.

Thank you!
