Spanish Learning Through Cooking and Debate

This week, our Spanish students took their learning into the kitchen! They prepped ingredients, controlled the heat for that perfect crispy rice layer (known as socarrat in Spanish or 飯焦 in Chinese), then enjoyed the fruits of their labor together.

But the experience didn't stop at the kitchen counter. With full stomachs and firsthand knowledge, the students dove into an active cultural debate. Using the dish as a mirror, they discussed how geography, climate, and history shape the identity of a society, while putting their oral skills to the test. By stepping outside the traditional classroom, our students engaged in real-world dialogue, challenged stereotypes, and discovered that food is one of the most powerful ways to connect with other cultures.

It was incredible to see language, culture, and community come together over a traditional pella from Valencia. Cheers to our amazing students for bringing global traditions to life.
