We were delighted to welcome back Horatius Choy, who graduated from CSS in 2012 as part of our first cohort and is now a barrister in Hong Kong.
During our conversation, Horatius opened up about life as a barrister. His work includes courtroom advocacy in criminal and civil cases, mediation, legal drafting, and providing independent advice to clients. He explained the careful balance barristers must maintain in court, upholding both a duty to act with integrity toward the court and a duty to protect their clients' interests with determination.
Horatius also walked us through how he prepares for cases and the training path to becoming a barrister, from law school through PCLL and pupillage. He shared a memorable case that illustrated how seemingly small actions can lead to significant legal consequences, reminding students of an important principle: "Think twice before you act. There are always consequences to the decisions you make in your life."
We're grateful to Horatius for returning to CSS and sharing his journey. His story shows our students that the skills and values cultivated at CSS can lead to meaningful careers that serve our community and uphold justice.
